Welcome to Episode 5 of Sit & Sew Radio!
We have a winner in the Oliso Iron giveaway. Congratulations to Gena Raban the winner of the Oliso® Smart Iron from the Episode 3 giveaway.
This week we’ve got some great guests on, and some patriotic quilting topics for you all to listen to while you sew this Fourth of July weekend.
Christa Watson, author, blogger QuiltCon 2017 instructor
Christa has a new book out that she co-wrote with Angela Walters, “The Ultimate Guide to Machine Quilting Long-arm and Sit-down” and is teaching at QuiltCon 2017.
Listen to the interview to hear here quilting tips and tricks for managing a large quilt on a domestic sewing machine, get a preview of her QuiltCon 2017 courses and hear about how she met Angela Walters.
Sue Reich, author “Quilts Presidential and Patriotic”
Sue Reich is a quilt historian, collector and author. Her latest book and accompanying quilt exhibit examines patriotic and presidential quilts throughout our county’s history and how they made a statement about the political and social times of the day.
One of the best parts of the interview was when Reich explained that until women received the right to vote, they didn’t have a voice in the public forum. Quilt-making was how they expressed their opinions on the matters of the day.

Since the organization was created in 2003, more than 140,000 quilts have been awarded to veterans to thank and honor them for their service. Many of those quilts have been given in the last few years as the organization grows rapidly.
