Welcome to Episode 3 of Sit & Sew Radio, a Quilt Addicts Anonymous podcast. This week I’ve got two pattern and fabric designers on, plus the inventor of the Oliso® Smart Iron.
I also share a pretty funny story about how I found out the hard way that there is such a thing as too much fabric. Listen to find out what happened. Then tell me in the comments if you too have had a situation where there really was too much fabric.
I’ve also got an awesome giveaway this episode. Scroll to the bottom of the show notes to enter for a chance to win your very own Oliso® Smart Iron, courtesy of our guest Ehsan Alipour, the iron’s inventor!
As always, if you like this podcast, make sure to give it a review on iTunes. That helps other quilters find it and join in the fun!
Emily Herrick, author and Michael Miller fabric designer
Emily Herrick is a fabric designer for Michael Miller and her latest line Up and Away is in quilt shops now. The fabric line features boys and girls prints in rich colors that works for newborns all the way through grade school.
This is the first children’s line Herrick has created and it has inspired a collection of projects that can be used to create custom decor for a child’s room. Her self-published book “Grow with Me” will be available for purchase next week and features three kids quilts, baskets patterns, a multi-purpose organizer, a growth chart and hand embroidery projects to create a custom, coordinated nursery.
Alison Glass, pattern and Andover Fabrics designer
Loved by modern quilters for her full-bodied, saturated colors, Alison Glass is a fabric designer for Andover Fabrics. Her latest collection Handcrafted is in quilt shops now along with a collection of new patterns inspired by the design.
We talk about her design aesthetic, why puke green is an essential color to make pink pop and how the Internet is changing the way quilters collaborate and grow as artists.
Glass’ fabrics will soon be available on Quilt Addicts Anonymous. In the meantime, you can check out her website and sign up for email updates so you can known when new patterns and kits are available.
Sometimes you just can’t fit everything in a 10-minute segment. Click here to read a more in-depth article about Alison Glass over on Quilt Addicts Anonymous.
Ehsan Alipour, inventor Oliso® Pro™ Smart Iron
So everyone knows about the Oliso® Pro™ Smart Iron. Everyone also wants one.
Who couldn’t benefit from an iron that lifted itself off the ironing board so you don’t scorch your fabric? I know I’ve taught more than a few classes where the community ironing board had been a victim of an iron left in one spot too long more than once.
But while everyone love the Oliso, the story of how it came to be. The short answer is a very smart guy just couldn’t stop tinkering with products to make them better. For the long answer, listen to the podcast to hear from Ehsan Alipour, the revolutionary iron’s inventor.
Alipour is so generous that he wants one lucky Sit & Sew Radio listener to have their own Oliso® Pro™ TG1600 Smart Iron. To enter for your chance to win, just fill out the form below. You have until Thursday, June 23, 2016 to enter. Good luck!
