Malka Dubrawsky, fabric designer, dyer, author and blogger
I interviewed Malka a couple years ago when she was teaching an online course and she is always fun to talk with.
She went to school to study studio art and turned to art quilting when she was at home raising kids. She received lots of recognition, and was featured in several publications, but eventually moved over to the modern quilting world when her desire shifted to creating more functional textiles that others would inspire other quilters.
In the interview we cover what she is working on now, how amazing her longarmer is, organizing her new studio and some new patterns she is working on.
Click here to check out Malka’s website SitchinDye.com. You’ll find her blog, patterns and a link to her Etsy shop where she sells her beautiful, modern, hand-dyed batiks.
Jazz Impressions: SCVQA Improvisational Challenge
Jazz Impressions: SCVQA Improvisational Challenge is a collaboration between the San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles, the Santa Clara Valley Quilt Association and San Jose Jazz Summer Fest 2016.
Jazz Impressions features 45 art quilts made by members of the Quilt Association and were all inspired by jazz. The exhibit, which runs through August 21, 2016, was planned to coincide with San Jose Jazz Summer Fest 2016, August 12-14, 2016, an annual jazz festival in downtown San Jose, California.
In the interview, you’ll hear from three people who were instrumental (pun intended) in bringing Jazz Impressions to life:
- Amanda Rawson, manager of museum advancement at the San Jose Museum of Quilts and Textiles
- Martine Yingling, member of the Santa Clara Valley Quilt Association
- Brendan Rawson, executive director of San Jose Jazz
